ABOUT ME

Judging the Maui Onion Festival in May 2013.

This site is an archive of my published work as a journalist, critic, and essayist, spanning food, travel, humor, and long-form storytelling.

Over the years, I’ve worked as an award-winning, Charleston-based freelance writer, editor, and photographer, with bylines across regional and national publications.

If you’re new to my work, the “Best Of” section offers a good entry point.

Before writing full-time, I spent years in professional kitchens, including three as a working chef while earning a psychology degree. That background, combined with time spent both inside and outside the corporate world, shaped how I write: observational, authentic, and occasionally irreverent.

Yes, there was also an MBA. It was earned at night, with ambition, caffeine, and a brief flirtation with the idea of becoming a Fortune 500 CEO. That phase ended. The storytelling (and the oysters) remained.
